This is a very special lantern indeed! The Marlin was always on my lantern bucket list, as it was the first PFI-compliant LED lantern manufactured entirely in the UK, by E-ON and Advanced LEDs LTD. This one dates to 2010, truly ancient for anything LED! What's interesting about this one is that there is evidence of serviceability, a trait shared with my Schréder Claro 1 (another first gen LED lantern).
The spigot is unique on these, both post-top and side-entry versions existed, but it isn't adjustable in any way. Instead changing it would require fitting an entire new back section to the lantern, or an adaptor bracket.
To open the lantern, you must remove the front casting.
Only after that can the bowl also be removed. The lantern really has no main body, the two grey sides are just slide-on pieces, just like the reflector.
The ID sticker is located in the area under the bowl:
The LEDs are unusual, the feature huge diffusers, and each module can be removed by undoing four screws and a wire clip connector. This makes me wonder, perhaps individual LED modules were intended to be sold, preventing the need to toss out the whole lantern if a set failed. Serviceability certainly would have been experimented with given this was the first PFI compliant lantern manufactured here!
The back two are both riveted onto the spigot section, unusually.
The aluminium reflector can be slid out to reveal a lovely nest of wires and the driver beneath.
The driver is a stadium DEL882 POWER, it also relies on the same sliding and screw mechanism as the rest of the lantern.
Despite being 16 years old, the lantern works better than most modern LED stuff! The LEDs are noticably green from age.
