My Collection: Thorn Alpha 5

The Thorn Alpha 5 is becoming incredibly rare nowadays, so to have one enter the collection was a welcome surprise! This ones original location is not known, but it appears to have run SOX from the factory, rather than SLI as earlier versions did.

Both the top and bottom profile of the lantern showcase its tapering shape. It's much thinner at the street end of the lantern compared to the spigot end. The lantern is essentially a stretched Alpha 9.

Fitted on top of the canopy is a NEMA socket:

The bowl can be opened by undoing the two prong clips on one side of the lantern (or rather one on this example as the bowl is damaged at the rear clip).

Three screws for the reflector have snapped, and the other is stuck solid, hence the tape holding it on.

A small sticker reveals this to be a Mk.15 version, but the actual ID sticker is long gone.
