The Philips SGS252 was the second smallest lantern from the Iridium range. This one entered the collection in late November 2025, and runs 70W SON on an electronic Philips driver. These drivers are quite rare compared to the SON 100 and SON 150 drivers. There is no ID sticker in this lantern, so I can only guess its age as being roughly 11 years old.
Fitted on top of the canopy is a NEMA socket for a photocell.
The socket is dated to July 2013. This lantern appears to be made from a number of mixed parts, with various dates between 2011-2015 around the lantern.
The grubscrews are on a flip plate which allows the iridium to accept both post-top and side-entry mounting.
At the front of the lantern is a clip which causes the canopy to hinge open towards the spigot. You can see the driver in a plastic compartment at the back. This plastic compartment would've had a cover originally which is where the ID sticker would have been, and where the connectors would have been mounted.
By turning two toggles, the optic can be removed from the lantern entirely. Notice the 2011 date code on the toggles.
To remove the lamp-holder for lamp changes, a handle can be pushed up and the holder comes free.
A 2015 date code is visible on the optic:
