The GEC Z8897 differs from the Z8896 in that it is fitted with an ES lamp-holder for 70W SON lamps. The lamp-holder on this is presumed to be original, so it was likely made as the Z8897. Unlike my Z8896, this lantern features a polycarbonate bowl (which has suffered severe yellowing over the decades). To make this lantern rarer, it is white (and appears to have been from the factory).
The lantern has not been drilled for any-kind of photocell or radio controls.
The layout inside is very simple; it features nothing but a connection to the lamp, the grub-screws, and an earth terminal.
Being remote-geared, the lantern requires connection to an external gear. I used a spare 70W SON ballast originally from a Thorn Gamma 6.
