My Collection: Simplex ACF4N2218O059
With thanks to Nick for this luminaire. This is a weatherpack canopy luminaire made by Simplex Lighting, and references to Chalmit Lighting and Whitecroft can be found throughout the fixture. It runs two 18W T8 lamps, but came with four or five extra ones! This type of luminaire was intended for hazardous area or exposed lighting such as multi-level car parks.
It features a polycarbonate refractor.
The luminaire's ID sticker is present on the exterior of the weatherpack.
The undoing of four clips allows the inside to be accessed.
The tubes it came with are GE Polylux 18W tubes.
Two toggles can be rotated which releases the gear-tray. Having a connector at each end means you can have any number of these in a continuous series.
A single Tridonic ballast is present inside.
An inspection stamp dates the luminaire to the 16th of August of 1996. You can faintly see the related Chalmit Lighting referenced here.
The Cambridge Capacitors capacitor is dated to the 24th week of 1996.
The starters are strange. To remove them, you rotate the holders, and then unclip the starters. I haven't seen this mechanism before!
The weatherpack was powered on shortly after acquisition:
