The Philips XGS104 is the longer version of the XGS103. This is so it can accommodate the longer 55W SOX or 36W SOX-E lamps. This was the first XGS104 to enter the collection, although both were received on the same day! Thank you to AgentHalogen_87 for giving me this lantern from his collection. The XGS104 can be mounted side-entry only or post-top only depending on the spigot. This one is the post-top version.
The main features atop the canopy are the NEMA socket (dated June 2002) and the Philips logo.
Inside the spigot is a bar for tightening the lantern to the column, via the two grub-screws at the back of the spigot.
To open the bowl, two clips line the side of the lantern.
Removing the reflector tray exposes the gear, which is all located towards the front of the lantern.
The gear is composed of a Philips BSX 355L 82 ballast, a Philips SX 72 ignitor and a Philips EN61048/A2 (6.5μF) capacitor.
At the back of the lantern is a metal plate which hosts the two bolts that keep the spigot attached. This is also how the lantern is grounded.
The GRP canopy had sustained damage before it was given to me, as one of the hinges had snapped off. I fixed it with some glue and it was good-as-new!
