When I got this Philips MI26, it was incredibly grubby, with moss covering the canopy, so it was time for a clean up! After a lovely warm and soapy wash to the canopy, it cleared up beautifully! I re-assembled the lantern after wiping down the bowl (which was in great condition!) and it even came with a working 26W SOX-E lamp.
But it wasn't done yet... It needed a few coats of spray paint. The finished product is visible in the image below:
Sadly, the NEMA socket was cracked upon acquisition. I did add new screws and cork, but chose not to replace the socket.
Looking closer, a November 1995 date-code is pressed into the plastic.
The side entry spigot:
The lamp it came with is the one it will be keeping. It appears tired, but still works a treat.
The sticker is positioned below the lamp-holder, and it reveals the exact day in which this lantern was produced: 27th February 1996.
The gear is situated towards the street-end of the lantern. Despite the rest of the canopy undergoing restoration, the gear remains original.
The canopy was created around four years prior to the lantern's assembly date, evident by the 1992 date code embossed into the GRP.
A closer view of the gear:
Despite suffering heat damage, the capacitor is still structurally intact, and still bears it's information stamped to the side of it. A March, 1995 date-code is also retained.
The lantern is in working order, even with it's aged components, it works well!
