The Philips M150 may as well be called the MI50 Mk.1, as the lantern is the original design of the MI50. It has a couple of features that separate it from the MI50, such as: a different paint on the gear-tray, a missing date-compass on the canopy, the inclusion of a capacitor/ignitor mount on the gear-tray, and a different sticker. This is my M150, having come from another collector. It is dated back to 1981, the year that Philips changed the design of the M150, making this one of the last ones made. This is how it looked in as-received condition:
The bowl has the same hinge and clip mechanism as the MI50, where pulling the clip allows for the undoing and complete removal of the bowl.
The lantern disassembled for cleaning:
The gear-tray wasn't cleaned due to the importance of the inspection sticker, with it's 1981 date code.
After it's glow-up, the M150 looked much better!
The HL-2 cell might be original to the lantern, having been added to it in 1993.
The cell-socket is original due to the "*1" on the sticker inside.
From underneath, the familiar M150/MI50 bowl is on display.
...but the designs divert inside. Notice the semi-circular hole for the ignitor/capacitor mount, the different paint on the gear-tray and different location for the sticker. The lantern also has four screws holding the gear-tray on, where as the MI50 has just two.
Removing the tray leads to more differences.
The MI50 has a date-code here, but this doesn't appear to be present on the M150.
The lantern was run with a gear-board shortly after cleaning; the 35W SOX lamp jumped into action!
