This poor thing has certainly seen its service! Despite it's condition and the heavy corrosion, the decision was made to rescue it as these fixtures are quite rare in the UK. This is due to the 2-Tone having been created just a few years before the development of the first LED lanterns, so the 2-Tone never really had the chance to launch into popularity. It gets its name from the two grey pieces of aluminium which make up the body of the lantern. I first spotted these on Google Maps, where I originally thought they were SOX fittings. The below image showcases this odd illusion:
But that light grey section isn't the bowl. Instead, it's a door with the optic attached to it.
The safety glass was smashed sadly, so all remaining chunks were removed. I plan to have a new glass cover cut for it. This example is also heavily corroded, but surprisingly (and with some persuasion) all screws and both grub-screws were able to turn.
The lantern would have been fitted with a Zodion SS12A minicell originally, that is, before a radio-node was likely installed in place of it.
The lantern is fitted with a post-top spigot, which is held on via two bolts.
The clip to open the lantern is on the street-end. Upon undoing the clip, the light grey base section hinges open towards the spigot.
On the other side of the door, the layout is simple. A toggle allows for quick lamp-changes, but with no glass, this examples has temporarily been made obsolete! A Small reflector is also present, as is the sticker.
The CAT No. is visible below, as well as the lanterns specifications. They are as follows: "2TONE" - Name of the Lantern, "P45W" - CPO-TW 45W lamp, "/PT/" - Post-top, "SS12A" - The type of minicell the lantern was originally ordered with. The SS12A is long gone, and has been for years at least, so only it's ghost remains in the form of the sticker. The "L07" at the bottom-right corner refers to December of 2007. This is likely one of the first 2-Tones produced, and it is believed that they existed in said location as a trial - before another lantern was chosen for CPO-TW lamps in the area.
