The EXLITE Titan sign light is a signature UK lantern. It can be seen in use pretty much everywhere, lighting the signs around junctions. I welcomed this one into my collection on the 23rd February 2024. It's original location is not known, but it isn't in bad condition!
The flat-plastic bowl can be opened with the removal of two screws, and removed completely if slid out. Each lamp has it's own TRIDONIC EC9 ballast, OSRAM ST111 starter and 2 Amp fuse, yet they share a Sirebeck S100 photocell and 4 microfarad capacitor.
The photocell date code states January 2002, likely close to the manufacture date of the lantern, as the capacitor states 0302, corresponding to the third week of 2002.
I tried to open one of the fuse containers, but the plastic had become so brittle that it fell to pieces once I touched it. New fuse containers will need to be installed, along with wire connectors before I power it up. If I were to power it up now and the loose live terminal in a connector was to make contact with earth, neutral or anything with continuity to the aluminium canopy, it could spell disaster for both me and the lantern.
A view of the two BELL T5 8W fluorescent tubes, made in China.
The lantern was fired up and worked like a treat!
