Verity's LTD Maxlume Lantern Installations

This was an industrial reflector light fitting made by Verity's LTD - based in Birmingham. Installations of this type of reflector were quite common, but nowadays are increasingly uncommon. The Maxlume could run tungsten lamps, and may also have been able to run discharge lamps.

This stunning installation is fixed to a wall next to a long disused railway tunnel. The street here would once have carried railway tracks through the Granville Street Railway Goods Tunnel. This fitting was installed before 1957.

The remains of a GLS lamp remain in the lamp-holder. Notice as well that the bracket has what appears to be "C.848" cast onto it.

This view showcases the numerous corrosion holes that have appeared in the fittings ~70 years of life.
