Urbis St. Giles Medium Lantern Installations
Urbis' St. Giles lantern was an interesting pendant-mounted heritage luminaire that was available in three sizes. In older versions, either: an inset optic and a horizontal lamp were used, or a circular refractor encompassing a vertical metal halide or SON lamp. These medium-sized versions could run: 70W or 100W SON, 50W, 70W or 100W metal halide, or 45W, 60W, 90W or 140W Cosmopolis, and were recommended for mounting height of 5m-6m. Nowadays the St. Giles is still in production, using an LED board.
Leicester
I spotted this example in early 2025 in Leicester Train Station. It runs an LED cob lamp in a horizontal optic.
Rocester
The Medium St. Giles is abundantly used throughout Rocester, this one is column 2 of Ashbourne Road. All of the St. Giles here run SON lamps.
A minicell is present, poking out from within the lantern's body.
