Urbis Evolo Lantern Installations

These lanterns were extremely common throughout the UK, and can still be seen in abundance to-this-day. The Evolo 2 was the smallest lantern in the Evolo series. They were side-entry or post-top, and could run SON, or metal halide (most commonly cosmowhite) lamps. Overall, the Evolo 2 was quite a sturdy lantern with a range of optical options, held closed by a dependable clip towards the front of the lantern.

Rugby

Below is column 11 of Coton Road: a 5m hockey-stick column sporting an Urbis Evolo 2. A Thorn Beta 5 was located here previously.

The lantern is fitted with a radio-node cell, as are all the lanterns on this road.

Tamworth

These examples are located on Perrycrofts Crescent, Tamworth. They run 45W CosmoPolis lamps.

There are also some side-entry lanterns on the road.

Opposite the Train Station in Tamworth, the Urbis Evolos have the reversed optic!

A close-up reveals the CPO lamp inside.

These installations have sadly been removed as of February 2024. Don't panic though! A gallery of Urbis Evolos with the reversed optic exist about the cycleways around Bolebridge Street and Ankerdrive. The first example isn't too bad, but the increase in tree coverage means they get grubbier and grubbier...

The second column:

Column 3 has the worst lantern in terms of cobwebs and grime!
