WRTL 2000 Lantern Installations

Also sold as the Kegel, WRTL's 2000 was a huge post-top known for it's versatility with lamp-types (and the fact they looked like flying saucers. They were known to have run high-pressure sodium, low-pressure sodium, compact fluorescent or metal halide lamps. These lanterns were post-top mount only.

These 2000s are located around the Burton War Memorial. These would have been replacements for Thorn Gamma 6s. This one is located off Manor Cross.

The washer for the locking-nut has fallen into the bowl below.

Another example down the pathway. This one's a bit taller than the surrounding examples, at 6m.

Chester

And now, located along the Shropshire Union Canal Main Line, possibly the dumbest installations I have ever seen! At first, nothing seems amiss...

But, looking closely, there are some WRTL 2000 lanterns down there. Still, I thought that these must sit in some sort of cut out in the wall to allow such a wide radius lantern to be mounted there.

...But no! The lanterns have been cut so that 1/3 of them is missing. This allows them to sit roughly flush with the wall. You would think that they'd have selected wall-mounted lanterns or perhaps something less awkward than the 2000.

This is the second of three 2000 lanterns here, all cut in half.

Some-sort of back plate has been fitted to the lanterns and sealed with caulk it appears.

I do wonder at what point did they realise such a modification would be required!

The final one here has a severe ingress problem.

Tamworth

This was a very lucky picture! Taken just days before it's replacement in 2024, this Industria 2050 was running a 36W PL-L lamp. From my understanding it didn't work in the lead-up to it's removal.

This retrofitted example is located off Edward Court.
