Urbis Limpet (old) Lantern Installations
This was the larger version of the Limpet Sealsafe™ luminaire designed for use under bridges. It is believed that this version featuring the box-shaped body and either ZX1 or ZX2 Sealsafe™ optic is older than the two newer versions featuring a ZX1 optic. It could be that the design was changed to only support a ZX1 optic as they were almost always used under low bridges or subways where optics for 100W+ SON lamps were not often required. It could also be that these boxy versions were the recessed version of the Limpet, and simply had more optical options.
Burton-upon-Trent
Burton is home to various types of Limpet, the newer version seen here, and also this older version. This pair are located on Dallow Street.
These examples use flat-glass ZX1 Sealsafe™ optics.
There appear to be 70W SON lamps inside.
This is the second Limpet Lantern:
They are fed via the base of a long-lost signpost or column.
The conduit extends all the way out of the bridges cover - to a small box with a NEMA cell (Zodion SS6) which controls the lanterns.
The same lanterns at night:
London
These recessed canopy Limpets can be found outside of London Euston Station, with most running 150W SON-T lamps in a ZX2 optic.
These all have deep bowls.
