Philips MI50 Lantern Installations

The Philips MI50 was the precursor to the MI26. The lantern's canopy is of aluminium construction, with the gear being mounted on a gear-tray. Remote and integral geared versions of this lantern were available. The bowl is made from polycarbonate, being the same bowl that the later MI26 would use. It bears a close-resemblance to the Thorn Beta 5, but it has more of an angular/squarish appearance.

Church Lane supports two identical installations. Each MI50 runs 26W SOX-E.

Tamworth

The Philips MI50 is no longer widely used in Tamworth. Only a few known installations exist that are not privately owned since the MI50s around Belgrave lake were removed. This one is on Blackwood Road, Tamworth, and exists among several 35W Simplex Aries, along with about 8 other MI50s. They might have been replacements for 35W SOX Simplex Aries. I plan to save these lanterns, wish me luck! Column T28:

Three MI50s exist in the town centre running 26W SOX-E. This example is seen opposite The Colin Grazier, Church Street. It's mounted on a 5m Stanton concrete column with a short outreach bracket. It seems to have a permanent resident living between the bracket and bowl.

The two other MI50s are located just off College Lane, These ones are wall mounted.

Uttoxeter

This MI50 is located on a building along Smithfield Road. It's only mounted at about 3m-4m above ground-level.

It runs 26W SOX-E, and it's purpose is to light the entrance to a small lane.
