Kingswood Railway Lantern Installations

These lanterns were very rare fixtures based around an original type of gas lantern. Due to other manufacturers producing similar designs, the numbers of these fittings were kept low. They were only known to have been mounted top-entry. These lanterns could run SON or metal halide lamps.

Burton-upon-Trent

These lanterns are believed to be some variant of the Kingswood Railway, located on the grounds of ibis budget Burton Upon Trent Centre.

A small plaque with the manufacturer's name "Kingswood" is riveted to the lantern's body.

Another (damaged) Railway lantern was spotted adjacent to the previous example.

The clip on this lantern has failed completely (sometime during 2021) causing the lantern to half-open, only the column is preventing this from hanging on the hinge entirely. This does make me wonder about the serviceability of this installation, the lantern would have to be twisted on it's bracket to open it properly. Also notice the column number is on the lantern's body as-well-as the column. It appears as if these columns were re-numbered at one point.

This lantern does expose the gear that they use though!

On my way out of the lot I also spotted a double-arm column featuring these lanterns; I don't envy whoever has to service those!
