Urbis Ampera Midi Lantern Installations
Urbis' Ampera Midi is the medium-sized lantern in the Ampera series, where they are intended for mounting between 10m-12m, and can be adapted for post-top or side-entry mount. The spigot on these lanterns is a weak-spot, and older examples occasionally end up going wonky or snapping off. The Ampera Midi comes in power-consumptions between 57W-346W, and despite the problems with some of the spigots, they are generally good lanterns, with IP ratings of IP66, and an impact-resistance rating if IK08-IK10.
Cavendish Bridge
This is column HL6 of London Road (which is lined with Ampera Midis).
A view of another column approaching Sawley Junction:
Crewe
The Ampera Midi is used in great numbers throughout Crewe, with these installations being located on Gresty Road.
Before the Ampera, a GEC Z9554(M?) was installed on this column.
Much, much further down Gresty Road, I also photographed a post-top Ampera Midi.
More post-top Ampera Midis can be found encircling the roundabout between the A534 and A532.
I followed the A534 to photograph some of the twin-arm columns in the centre of the grass verge that separates both directions of traffic.
These are fitted with what appear to be Zodion daylight-saving photocells, evident by their green colouring.
Some interesting Ampera Midis exist along Dunwoody Way, where the change from side-entry to post-top can be seen when the columns switch from being positioned behind the pathway to between the pathway and road. The columns were moved backwards in 2016 when a junction was constructed on that part of the road to serve a McDonalds. It's possible this decision was made to reduce the chances of an impact, but it's not known why this wasn't done with all of them.
It was in 2016 when this column on Wistaston Road had it's outreach bracket sawn off to make way for the Ampera Midi that would occupy it. Previously there was a Vectra here.
Notice the spigot's odd angle in order to keep the Ampera level.
Loughborough
The town of Loughborough also uses the Ampera Midi in vast numbers. This one is located nearly immediately outside of the Train Station. These replaced black Urbis Sapphire 2s.
Along the A60, is this column which is notable as it is a much older Stewarts & Lloyds column. Loughborough still has a lot of these older columns in service, simply upgraded and modernised with LED lanterns and newer brackets.
The column still has its original door, albeit clinging on for dear life!
Another older column here, the same type as the one pictured above, but much less neglected. It has two Ampera Midis on an angled twin-arm bracket. This is located on Sparrow Hill.
