Thorlux Azmet 3 Lantern Installations

The Azmet 3 flood light was a general-purpose asymmetric area light which could run up to 400W high-pressure sodium (SON-T, SON-T plus or SON-T comfort) or metal halide lamps. They featured an IP rating of IP65. These flood lights were quite common, especially around Birmingham where they seem to be used in substantial numbers.

An Azmet 3 was spotted attached to a building off the A47 by means of a post-top wall-bracket.

The footpaths inside of Salford Circus are illuminated with Azmet 3 flood lights.

This was the first example to be photographed.

Oddly, these ones seem to have an issue with lamps, with multiple containing lamps with smashed outer-bulbs.

These are all mounted on Abacus base-hinged columns, as getting a van down here would be impossible. Below is an example without a smashed lamp.

Nearby is another Azmet 3 with a smashed HQIT lamp.

The arc tube also appears to have exploded, perhaps a power-surge is responsible for this? There is no visible damage to any of the fixtures, as their tall columns have kept them out of the reach of vandalism.

The base-hinge on this example appears to have broken, and it is tightly-wrapped in tape.
