Phosco P392 Lantern Installations
The Phosco P392 was a shoebox-style lantern for: 70W-110W SON or 80W-125W MBF/U ES (P392) or 80W-125W MBF/U 3BC (P392/1). They could be mounted side-entry, post-top (with adaptor) or catenary (soffit). These were rarer lanterns, not seeing much wide-spread usage across the UK, but a few areas did (and still do) use them.
London
London's Tube numerous stations can often be found using P392s to light the platforms. This example was spotted in Goldhawk Road Tube Station.
Most of these actually seem to be day-burning. Whether this is due to any fault, or perhaps intentional due to manual switching is unknown. This one runs a metal halide lamp:
Some SON examples were pictured lining the platforms at West Brompton Tube Station.
West Kensington Tube Station is also home to several Phosco P392s. These run a mix of 70W SON or metal halide lamps.
The enamelled grey finish has worn off this example, only a small amount remains.
The faint sticker inside reveals some more info about this fixture, such as the inside had an IP rating of IP54.
A twin-arm column is home to two P392s, but this isn't the usual twin-adaptor these lanterns could be supplied with.
Temple Tube Station possesses the only wall-mounted P392 I've seen as of August 2025. It was also the only one that wasn't day-burning.
A photocell and supply box are visible behind the installation:
