Holophane Bi-Way Refractor Lantern Installations
Holophane's Bi-Way refractor lantern was designed to burn vertical mercury or GLS lamps. They were available in two sizes: Small for Group "B" lighting, and Large for Group "A" lighting. The lantern could be ordered for side-entry or top-entry mounting depending on the column it was required to fit.

These ancient installations are located on a scrap site on Garrison Street, Birmingham. They consist of Concrete Utilities Avenue 3DNN columns topped with Holophane Bi-Way refractor lanterns. Both lanterns are in remarkable condition when considering their age, although the concrete has seen some degradation.
The first installation's concrete bracket is quite badly weathered, with significant portions of the concrete having broken away.
The first of the two lanterns has been carefully decorated by some birds, but other than that it remains in great condition!
The Concrete Utilities name-tag is present on the base door of the first column:
The second column's concrete bracket is in much better condition than the first example.
This lantern is in similar condition to the last one, with it's glass refractor completely intact.
This column lacks the name-plate on the door:
