GEC Z8288 Lantern Installations

GEC's Z8288 lantern was one of many fluorescent lanterns they produced. It was described as the "Railway Platform Lantern" and was designed to be mounted post-top. The spigot is in the centre of the lantern, making any installation with it noticeably T-shaped. Occasionally, they could have the station name across the sides of the Perspex bowl. They were designed for a 4m mounting-height, running two 80W MCF fluorescent lamps. There was also a suspended version known as the GEC Z8290.

Rhyl

Approximately three GEC Z8288 Lanterns are installed on an abandoned section of Platform 1 at Rhyl station. As we were not getting off at Rhyl, I had to time this photo just right.
