GEC Z5227 Lantern Installations
GEC's Z5221 was a range of open-mirror lanterns which were incredibly simple in construction. It featured two wings, each with six mirror facets. It had an intended mounting-height between 4m-6m, and could be mounted top-entry or sloping-side-entry. Versions existed which could run 60W-200W GLS, 45W SO/V or 80W-125W MB/V. This range documents the top-entry, GLS ES version: the Z5227.
Drayton Bassett
This incredible installation is located along Drayton Lane, and is privately-owned. The column may have had a gas lantern originally before being electrified and having the swan-neck bracket added.
The lantern looks to run a domestic GLS lamp, where prior it was fitted with a household CFL lamp according to street view.
The mirrors have sustained some damage over the decades, with some cracked, chipped and one appears to be missing entirely. It's possible this was one of the original lanterns that lit this village, before it was rescued and installed in the house's garden.
