GEC F16231/9 Lantern Installations

GEC's F16231/9 was a type of open, top-entry industrial distributing reflector for 40W-1500W GLS lamps. This type of fitting was used for "locations where light was required sideways up to a height level with that of the reflector", or "where a wide distribution of light is required, such as RAILWAY PLATFORMS, OPEN STORAGE AREAS, etc.". There were five diameters of reflector available; the catalogue numbers featured in my 1935 GEC catalogue are as-follows:

F16231 = 40W-75W GLS BC - 12inch diameter,

F16232 = 100W GLS BC - 15inch diameter,

F16233 =  150W GLS BC - 15inch diameter,

F16234 =  150W GLS ES - 15inch diameter,

F16235 =  200W GLS ES - 18inch diameter,

F16236 = 300W GLS G.E.S. - 21inch diameter,

F16237 = 500W GLS G.E.S. - 21inch diameter,

F16238 = 750W-1000W GLS G.E.S. - 24inch diameter,

F16239 = 1500W GLS G.E.S. - 24inch diameter.

London

In and around West Kensington Station are numerous reflector fittings, and among them are a few GEC F16231/9 reflectors. Without being able to get close enough, the exact type cannot be known.

While the previous two were on the approach to the station, this one is located within it, just beyond the end of the platform. It exists on a circular, ornate bracket and a short column.

It doesn't appear to have a lamp inside anymore, but if it does then it is one of the lower wattage examples or is damaged.
