ELECO HW-851 Lantern Installations
The ELECO HW-851 was introduced in the 1950s to comply with BS 1788/1951. These lanterns featured a one-piece LM6 aluminium casting to form the body, and a dome-refractor held in by clips with totally-enclosed springs. These open-type lanterns could run: 100W-200w GLS, or 80W-125W MB/U of MBF/U lamps.
Chester
There are two ELECO HW-851 lanterns mounted on rusted iron columns on an access road near Chester Railway Station.
Some pipework acts as a bracket for both lanterns
The lanterns both lack their circular refractors, as the prongs which held them on have rusted through.
The second installation is in much the same condition as the first, but the refractor-prongs are at least mostly intact here!
Derby
This example is located off Queen Street, where it is mounted on the side of a closed-down factory. The lantern is situated on a corner-wall-bracket that would ordinarily be used for Coughtrie lanterns (or something similar).
The lamp was smashed some-time before 2020.
