DW Windsor Knightsbridge Lantern Installations

The six-sided DW Windsor Knightsbridge showcases a classic luminaire design with modernised technology. As such, the versions being sold today can accommodate LEDs, whereas older versions could run SON or Metal Halide lamps. The lantern comes with a 76mm diameter post-top spigot for post-top mounting, or a wall-bracket for wall mounting.

Along the Road of Strand in Westminster is a decorative Walter Macfarlane & Co cast-iron column made by the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow. Previously, this column would have supported five SUGG gas lanterns, but in later years, it was electrified and five DW Windsor Westminster lanterns were added. When LEDs started their take over, DW Windsor's Knightsbridge lantern was chosen to replace the (likely SON) Westminster lanterns. This restoration can be seen taking place on Google Street View in July of 2014.

I believe these are the larger version of the Knightsbridge, but even these look slightly out-of-place on the massive, ornate column.

Below is a close-up of one of the lanterns. Notice the LED tray inside has been carefully chosen to mimic the gas mantles of the original SUGG lanterns.
