BEGA 9844 Lantern Installations

This post-top sphere was designed to produce a symmetric light-distribution, using a mercury discharge lamp between 80W-125W. They featured an IP rating of IP44. They were constructed from stainless steel and aluminium, with an 82mm diameter spigot, and a plastic opal diffuser. Only two colours were available with these: graphite grey and silver. Side-entry variants were sold under different catalogue numbers.

These BEGA 9844s are located off Bagot Street, and are believed to run (or have run) 80W mercury lamps.

The colour-less globes look quite at home against the dull background!

Another globe was pictured in the distance:

Another parking area on the same road features many of these globes:

The three screws for gaining access to the inside of the fixture are visible on the spigot-casting. Out of all of the globes I've seen, these are (visually at least) my favourite, although they do also appear to be pretty hardy.

A final example was photographed at the entrance of the second car park.
