AC Ford AC730 Lantern Installations

The AC Ford AC730 had been in production since around the 1960s, being discontinued when AC Ford went out of business. It could run 60W-200W GLS, 70W SON or 80W-125W MBF/U, but later versions could also run CFL lamps. Competing manufacturers made these lanterns somewhat rare among the small top-entry fittings.

Aspley Heath, Solihull

These lanterns were from the last batch made in AC Ford's old factory before they moved to the newer factory. They can be seen installed here in Aspley Heath. This one is on Aspley Heath Lane, and runs a compact fluorescent lamp.

The column and bracket make this lantern appear quite small - which it is!

From underneath, the CFL lamp can be seen clearly, despite the dirt gathered in the bottom.

This identical installation is positioned on the junction where Aspley Heath Lane meets Blind Lane.

An ancient street light cut-out/time switch box is installed on the now consumed wooden column behind the lantern.
